Training of trainers in Nigeria

In order to build the capacity of Aflatoun’s implementing partners, we provide high quality training to partner organisations using a tried and tested cascade training model (where master trainers are trained to train others). The multiplier effect of this training is enormous as it has positive impact at household, community and national level.

In the week of June 12, 2017, Aflatoun International in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) trained a group of 26 participants in Nigeria. The participants are members from CRS programmes and other implementing partners such as Save the Children International; Smile; Feed the Future; WEWE; IHVN CCFN and USAID. LYNX Nigeria, a longtime partner of Aflatoun International in Nigeria, was also represented and was instrumental in sharing LYNX impactful work with children and young people in Nigeria, including lessons learned, what works/doesn’t work with specific focus on financial education and entrepreneurship.

The goal of the training workshop was to equip the trainers with experiential learning and teaching using child-centered active learning methods such as Image Theatre, Brainstorming and Problem Trees. This four-day workshop avoided lectures and powerpoint presentations in favour of hands-on learning including teaching practice and peer-peer reviews – offering constructive criticism.
