Oceanium is a Senegalese NGO established in 1984, aiming at environmental protection. In the beginning, the focus was on sustainable management of the marine environment. Today, its activities extend to both onshore and offshore environments in Senegal and neighbouring countries, and are conducted by a team of professionals and volunteers.
Oceanium became an Aflatoun partner in 2009 and started its Aflatoun programme as an extracurricular activity in 2010. It has been innovative in the Aflatoun network by adapting the Aflatoun programme to its environmental education and related activities. This experience has broadened the scope of the programme, and also introduced new ideas into different Aflatoun core elements. For example, children save money but also have an interest in saving resources and gathering things of environmental value to save.
