Partner of the week: Centre Artistque de Gitega

Centre Artistque de Gitega is an NGO based in the capital of Burundi, that focuses on empowering local artists professionally through IT and internet training and formation courses.

CAG is devoted to supporting young people in their artistic initiatives in order to further encourage their entrepreneurial spirit and provide them with the necessary foundation to lead autonomous and empowered lives. This is achieved primarily through training young people in various sectors and trades in their continuous efforts to tackle unemployment and poverty, training youth supervisors to specialize in child protection and children’s rights, and finally creating access to spaces for young people to exhibit and sell their products.

Alongside this, CAG aims to support art and culture in Burundi, particularly through the promotion of a healthy environment strengthened by sustainable recycling waste initiatives in order to beautify cities. This allows young people to become further invested in their immediate surroundings as they develop their own initiatives, and encourages wider audiences to see the impact of youth engagement and the amelioration it inspires.

Our partnership

CAG currently reaches an over a thousand students a year and is hoping to expand their reach after having newly partnered with Aflatoun International since the beginning of the year! By implementing the Aflatoun social and financial education programme for children ages 3-18, CAG aims to enrich the existing training programs and activities of their organization, in addition to strengthening the capacity of their team members through optimal teacher training. Specifically, by integrating Aflatoun curricula into the CAG “Digital Unify” programme in cooperation with the STMicroelectronics Foundation, which aims to provide young with skills on TIC.

“What we like the most about the Aflatoun methodology is the brainstorming method which gives children space to express themselves. The active learning methodology is really exciting for young boys.”

Together the Centre Artistque de Gitega and Aflatoun are furthering mutual goals to strengthen youth social and financial independence in the continuous global fight against poverty!

Success Story

CAG has mobilized local organisations for formation events centred around training teachers and trainers on the subject of social and financial education of children in Burundi. These events have offered participants the opportunity to discuss and analyse diverse strategies on the best practices and implementations of children’s‘ programmes.
