This month, our partners Centre Sportif FAYDA (Senegal) and APROCEC (the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)) held two National Project Kick-Offs for our project on “Empowering vulnerable girls with social and financial skills”. With these two kick-offs, following the first in Benin, the project activities will now be implemented in the three countries during the next three years.
Funded by the Nationale Postcode Loterij, this project aims to socially and economically empower an estimated 26,000 adolescent girls and boys (aged 10-19) in Senegal, Benin and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In Senegal, the workshop took place at the French Institute Senegal in Dakar and was moderated by Mr Meissa Gueye NDOYE. It brought together more than 40 participants from various backgrounds including state institutions, training institutions, civil society organisations, technical and financial partners, journalists, and others.
The project’s goal is to reach 4,000 adolescents in Senegal as part of the promotion of financial education in the country. It is also included in the Regional Financial Inclusion Strategy, which aims at furthering financial literacy and consumer protection in the West African Economic and Monetary Union.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the workshop took place at the Centre de Resources des Enseignants de Kinshasa (Kinshasa Centre for Teacher Resources – CREK). 35 participants gathered from several institutions and organisations, including the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, the Ministry of Vocational Training, the Central Bank of Congo, Giz, Civil Society Organisations, Savings and Credit Cooperatives and project partner organisations.
In the DRC, we aim at reaching at least 10,000 adolescents and 350 teachers and inspectors through this initiative. The project is part of the National Financial Education Programme to strengthen the capacities of young people through the creation of sustainable businesses and bolster adolescents’ life skills.
