ChildFund International Kenya collaborates with local partner organisations, governments, corporations, and individuals to create the safe environment that children need to thrive. Their mission is to empower deprived, excluded, and vulnerable children and young people, enabling them to improve their lives and become young adults who bring lasting and positive change to their communities. Through its work with 38 local partners, ChildFund International Kenya reaches approximately 1 million children, families, and community members.
Our Partnership
Aflatoun International has been partnering with ChildFund Kenya since 2008, implementing the Aflatoun curriculum in 76 primary schools in the Nakuru District. Since the programme’s inception, the organisation has reached 2,500 children and young people, helping them to smoothly pursue their education and transition from primary to higher education institutions.

Growing Vegetables at the Aflatoun Club
One notable example of this collaboration is at Nzololo Primary School in Machakos County. In 2009, two teachers from the school were trained as Aflatoun trainers and subsequently formed a club with 30 members. The club has been active ever since, engaging in financial education activities such as savings and farming (banana, maize, and vegetables), as well as social activities like managing hand-washing stations and promoting the importance of personal hygiene at home and school.
“Incorporating financial literacy in schools allows children to develop responsibility, become creative, and acquire essential social skills,” says Stephen Mutunga, ECDP Programme Coordinator.
The school community has greatly benefited from this initiative, with children becoming more responsible and gaining a better understanding of financial matters. The school management commends ECDP for introducing these concepts, highlighting that financial and social literacy are crucial for children’s development, yet are not adequately covered in the current primary school curriculum.
