VIVA Vive Valores is a non-profit organisation founded in 2008 with the aim to develop social transformation projects that build active and responsible citizenship to positively impact society and contribute to a more united and prosperous future for Peru.
For over 15 years, their focus has been on enhancing education and creating enriching environments for young people to thrive. In fact, they have been designing and implementing innovative projects in Lima and other provinces to improve the education system through new methodologies centred on cooperation and the learner.
To do this, VIVA Vive Valores forms strategic partnerships and creates high-quality content that enhances social transformation initiatives, equipping children and youth with the necessary tools for personal growth. Their commitment is reflected in the creation of sustainable solutions and the empowerment of communities, ensuring a positive impact on the stakeholders they work with.
Financial Education Contributes to Social Progress
In a context where poverty and lack of access to basic services are persistent issues, equipping people with social and financial skills can empower them to improve their quality of life, and eventually to the country’s economic and social progress.
According to the OECD’s International Survey of Adult Financial Literacy, Peru ranks 30th out of 39 countries in terms of financial capabilities (knowledge, behaviours and attitudes), and 28th out of 27 in terms of financial well-being, such as people meeting their financial needs, knowing how to get through financial shocks, and having the ability to make decisions to achieve future financial goals).
Therefore, VIVA Vive Valores, saw the crucial need to develop social and financial competencies in children and adolescents so they can become familiar with these concepts from an early age, manage their money and make responsible and informed decisions for their futures.
Our Partnership
Since 2008, VIVA Vive Valores, in partnership with Aflatoun, has significantly impacted the country’s education system by successfully incorporating social and financial skills into the current national education curriculum. For example, the project “MI CITY” educated primary school children in San Juan de Lurigancho on basic finances and responsibilities, promoting savings and financial literacy from an early age. They are proud of the partnership and of the potential it has to empower children and youth across the country.
New Entrepreneurs Grow and Learn
VIVA Vive Valores highlights two projects that have impacted the education system in Peru.
The “Emprendiendo” project pioneered financial education in Peru, training thousands of high school students in entrepreneurial skills and a savings culture, contributing to their personal development and the progress of their communities. This project evaluated 10 schools as an implementation group (1,041 fourth-grade students) and 11 schools as a control group (1,366 fourth-grade students) in Lima and Callao, finding a positive impact on indicators of self-esteem, self-efficacy, social motivation, and knowledge of the project components.
Currently, “Pataz Emprende y Aprende” is one of the projects in the La Libertad region, strengthening the capacities of 985 high school students across 8 communities. Additionally, “Project Managers,” launched in 2023 in partnership with PMIEF, has trained 122 teachers in project management principles, reaching 10,519 students and strengthening key skills such as critical thinking and teamwork.
