Baz-Art was created over 8 years ago with the mission to empower and inspire communities in South Africa through the transformative power of art. The organisation aims to nurture creativity, promote social change, and support youth development by providing access to arts-based education, opportunities, and platforms for self-expression.
Baz-Art works to bridge gaps in social inclusion, foster sustainable community development, and build skills that contribute to personal growth and career opportunities in the arts and creative industries.
Baz-Art is focused on using the power of creativity to uplift communities, foster social change, and offer opportunities for personal and professional growth, all while contributing to social inclusion, education, job creation, and sustainability.
Our Partnership
Baz-Art decided to join the Aflatoun network by partnering up in 2019. This collaboration aimed to bring creative education programmes to South Africa, with a focus on promoting social and financial literacy among young people. Aflatoun’s approach combines life skills education with an emphasis on financial literacy, and through the partnership, Baz-Art was able to integrate this into their own programmes, empowering youth to take charge of their futures in both creative and practical ways.
This partnership helped expand Baz-Art’s educational initiatives by incorporating Aflatoun’s global network and expertise in providing social and financial education.
Using the AflaToun curriculum, Baz-Art believes that Social and Financial Education is crucial in South Africa because it helps empower youth by equipping them with essential life skills such as financial literacy, decision-making, and social responsibility. These skills are vital for overcoming socio-economic challenges, promoting economic independence, and fostering social cohesion. SFE also supports young people in navigating creative industries by teaching them how to manage finances and build sustainable careers. Overall, Baz-Art sees life skills and financial literacy as a key tool for fostering personal growth, economic empowerment, and active citizenship in marginalised communities.
Creative Empowerment Programme
Baz-Art is particularly proud of its “Creative Empowerment Program” which integrates Social and Financial Education to support youth development in disadvantaged communities. This initiative focuses on using art as a tool to teach young people essential skills like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and social awareness.
By combining creativity with practical education, the programme helps participants understand the economic aspects of the creative industries, including budgeting for projects, managing personal finances, and exploring entrepreneurship opportunities. This initiative not only empowers youth with financial and social skills but also gives them the confidence to pursue careers in the arts and beyond.
Through this programme, Baz-Art is able to foster economic independence and leadership in youth, addressing the specific needs of marginalised communities while promoting sustainable, positive change.
