TEACHING VS. LEARNING DESIGN

DESIGN FOR DIFFERENCE

Event Details

Teaching vs. Learning Design: Bridging the Gap with AI

Introduce teachers to the concept of learning design and how AI tools can help them shift from delivering content to designing meaningful learner-centric  experiences

This can include:

  • What learning design is (and the subtle differences between it and teaching in the traditional sense).
  • The core components: goals, learner needs, scaffolding, feedback loops, and engagement strategies.
  • How AI tools (like ChatGPT, Gemini, or tools built into LMSs) can help teachers take on the mindset of a learning designer—without adding more to their plate.

Open to all!

Design for Difference: Cultivating Neuroinclusive Learning Ecosystems
A 90-minute workshop for educators, learning support teams, and school leaders

What if our classrooms were designed not for the average—but for the full, radiant spectrum of minds, each uniquely wired to learn, feel, and flourish in their own way?

In this interactive and thought-provoking session, we’ll explore Design for Difference—a practical and salutogenic approach to reimagining educational spaces, systems, and supports so that every neurotype can thrive. Rooted in neurodiversity-affirming principles and inclusive design, this workshop invites us to move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions and toward flexible, responsive learning ecosystems.

Together, we’ll:
✨ Explore the 10 Essentials of Designing for Difference in education
✨ Reflect on our “Glows, Grows, and Glints” as educators and allies
✨ Discover tools to surface and amplify learner strengths
✨ Share strategies to cultivate belonging, agency, and flourishing for all students

Whether you’re a classroom teacher, SEN coordinator, learning assistant, or school leader, this session offers inspiration and tangible practices to support thriving—grounded in equity, collaboration, and deep care.

Facilitated by Lana Jelenjev, co-founder of the Neurodiversity Education Academy and program director at the Neurodiversity Foundation. Lana is a learning experience designer, community alchemist, and passionate advocate for neurodiversity-affirming education. Her work centers on reimagining learning systems that nourish difference, foster relational safety, and create the conditions for all minds to flourish. Through her leadership, Lana has supported schools, educators, and organizations in designing inclusive frameworks that move beyond compliance—toward healing, equity, and belonging. She is also the author of several widely used guides and toolkits on neurodivergent thriving, healing-centered leadership, and inclusive design—including Your Rhythm, Your FlowBeyond the Labels, and What’s Strong in You?, and Beyond Burnout.

Speakers:

Sulaima Ramadan is a Palestinian social entrepreneur and strategist working at the intersection of inclusive innovation, education, and systems change. She is the founder and CEO of Ibtikar for Empowerment and Social Entrepreneurship, a Palestine-based organization that seeks to reimagine how communities, particularly in contexts of occupation and systemic constraint, can access opportunity, dignity, and agency.

Since 2018, Sulaima has led Ibtikar’s evolution into a space for creative, community-rooted transformation. She has been instrumental in shaping alternative frameworks for socio-economic development that move beyond short-term interventions and instead invest in local capacity, resilience, and long-term impact. Her leadership is defined by a commitment to unlocking the potential of underserved populations—particularly youth and women—to participate meaningfully in shaping their own futures.

With a background in International Cooperation and Development, Sulaima draws from both academic inquiry and grounded field experience. Her approach is guided by a belief that innovation must be inclusive, co-created, and embedded in context. She is particularly known for advancing a life-centered approach at Ibtikar—an emerging model that expands the focus of development beyond human benefit alone to include ecological awareness, relational well-being, and the regeneration of social and environmental systems. This perspective informs her broader vision of sustainable development as a balance between transformation and care.

Sulaima’s work spans the design of learning ecosystems, participatory research, and the integration of social entrepreneurship into education and policy dialogue. Her practice is shaped by a deep understanding of the structural challenges facing Palestinian society and a long-standing engagement with cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary solutions. She actively contributes to international networks and regional dialogues, bringing forward perspectives from occupied Palestine while also forging space for exchange, learning, and solidarity across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Her participation is not only as a practitioner but as a thinker committed to reshaping the language and architecture of development from the margins outward. Today, Sulaima continues to position Ibtikar as a platform for experimentation, influence, and collective leadership.

Her work explores how dialogue, education, and social innovation can converge to cultivate resilient societies that are grounded in justice, interconnection, and imagination. In a region marked by fragmentation, her efforts are directed toward building bridges—across identities, disciplines, and geographies—toward more inclusive and life-affirming futures.
