On November 20, 2025, an international conference on children’s social and financial literacy was held in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the “Hopeful Future” Social Initiatives Public Union and Aflatoun International.
AZXEBER.COM reports that the purpose of the conference was to share international experience in improving the socio-financial knowledge of young people and to expand cooperation in this field in the country. The event was attended by representatives of 8 countries, as well as representatives of more than 70 higher and vocational education institutions.
The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan and “AZ Insurance” company were especially noted for their support to the organization of the conference.
In his opening speech, Nariman Gahramanli, Deputy Head of the Department of Preschool and General Education of the Ministry of Science and Education, informed about the measures implemented by the Ministry in the field of social and financial literacy of children and youth, the preparation of digital resources and placement on open platforms for students to develop their financial skills, the inclusion of financial literacy topics in the school curriculum, social projects and enlightenment in schools.
Then, the head of the Financial Literacy and Professional Development Department of the Central Bank, Ilaha Bakhshikova, spoke about the Bank’s strategy and priorities to increase the financial literacy of the population, the action plan, and the current and prospective projects implemented within the framework of cooperation with educational institutions.
In his speech, Viladi Maniyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AZ Insurance, drew attention to the importance of values such as the role of insurance in society, mutual support and social responsibility. Financial literacy is one of the prerequisites for every person to build a secure and sustainable future. Insurance is not only a mandatory procedure, but also an important financial instrument that protects the family budget in the event of unforeseen risks.
The official opening of the conference was jointly attended by Kamala Ashumova, Executive Director of the organization “Promising Future,” and Roland Monasch, Head of Aflatoun International. In the opening speeches, the organization has been an official member of the Aflatun organization since 2011, and the results achieved in Azerbaijan within the framework of the program and the development of social and financial knowledge of children, youth and teachers during this period were noted. At the same time, the Roland Monasch Aflatou program has already been implemented in many countries, and the main goal is to establish a sustainable financial and educational model for children and young people. He stressed the need to further expand cooperation in this field in Azerbaijan.
The conference continued with panel discussions. Presentations were made by representatives of Turkey, Kenya, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan under the moderation of Aflatoun International’s European Regional Coordinator. The participants listened with interest to each country’s educational programs on social and financial literacy, state cooperation and innovative practices.
The conference concluded with agreements on strengthening international relations, expanding educational programs and deepening future cooperation.
