Roeland Monash
CEO, Aflatoun

Roeland Monasch is the CEO of Aflatoun a Social Franchise delivering Social and Financial Education through a network of 300+ partner organizations in 100+ countries. Its mission is to inspire youth to socially and economically empower themselves to become agents of change for a more equitable future. Previously, Roeland worked for 20+ years with the UN (UNICEF & WHO), including as UNICEF Representative in Sierra Leone, Georgia, and Zimbabwe. He coordinated the UNICEF response during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone (2014-2015). In Georgia, he worked with the government on the de-institutionalization of all children living in large orphanages established during the Soviet Union era and managed the humanitarian operation in Abkhazia. In Zimbabwe, he coordinated the UNICEF development programme and protracted humanitarian crisis [2004–2009: Displacement; Cholera; Political violence; Hyperinflation; Collapse basic social services]. Roeland is married and has a seventeen-year-old daughter.

Lama Yazbeck
Deputy CEO, Aflatoun

Lama Yazbeck is the Deputy CEO of Aflatoun International a Social Franchise delivering Social and Financial Education through a network of 300+ partner organizations in 100+ countries. Previously, Lama worked for more than 18 years in the education, child protection and mental health sectors in Lebanon, and was the CEO of a child protection organization in Lebanon for 8 years. Lama was also the Director of International Social Services- Lebanon, responsible of cross-border case management.

Jeroo Billimoria
founder

The founder of several innovative and award-winning NGOs, Jeroo Billimoria encapsulates what it means to be a social entrepreneur. She is a Skoll awardee, and an Ashoka and Schwab Fellow. Jeroo is considered among the world’s leading social entrepreneurs and is now working on her ninth entrepreneurial venture. Among her organizations are Childline India and Child Helpline International, which have facilitated a global movement for protection of children and youth and are active in more than 181 countries –having responded to over 160 million calls. Her previous organization, Aflatoun, has succeeded in working with global partners to provide social and financial education to over 1 million children in 84 countries. Jeroo is currently leading One Family Foundation, Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI), and the Child & Youth Finance Movement to ensure financial inclusion and Economic Citizenship Education for young people worldwide.

Joanne Kellermann
supervisory board member, chair,

Joanne Kellermann is the Chair of Aflatoun International’s Supervisory Board since 2021 and has been a member of that board since 2018. She is active in the not-for-profit financial sector, as Chair of PFZW, the pension fund for the Care and Welfare sector, one of the largest pension funds in the world, and as chair of the board of NWB Bank NV, the bank financing water and public housing and a top issuer of green bonds in The Netherlands. Before that, she was a Board Member of the Single Resolution Board (SRB) in Brussels. From 2007 until 2014 she was an executive member of the Governing Board of the Netherlands Central Bank (DNB).

Olivier van Riet Paap
SUPERVISORY BOARD MEMBER

Olivier van Riet Paap is a Partner at Bridgepoint, one of the world’s leading private asset growth investors, specialising in private equity and private debt. He joined Bridgepoint in 2017 and leads the Amsterdam office with responsibility for investment activities within the Benelux region. Before joining Bridgepoint, Olivier worked at 3i where he focused exclusively on the Benelux market and spent ten years at McKinsey. Olivier has a Master’s Degree in Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Sander Volten
Supervisory Board Member

Sander is the Global CEO of 180, an internationally renowned advertising agency with offices in Amsterdam, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and Dubai. The agency’s magnetic and innovative vision to see “the world as it could be,” have created some of the most iconic marketing of the last twenty years – delivering both revered cultural and business impact – for brands such as Adidas, PlayStation, DHL, BMW, HP and Pepsico. Famously,  180 is structured around the world as a creativity-oriented ecosystem, with flexible, hybrid working practices and relentless focus on the power of a fresh perspective to build something purposeful and impactful for clients and brands. Sander has also driven a shift in 180’s offering to deliver a fresh perspective from end to end – from 180 Thinking – the agency’s marketing consultancy to 180 Design, 180 Made and 180 Content the new design, production and social practices.   

Kirsten Theuns
Director of Programmes

Kirsten Theuns is the Director of Programmes for Aflatoun International, a Social Franchise delivering Social and Financial Education through a network of 300+ partner organizations in 100+ countries. Its mission is to inspire children and youth to socially and economically empower themselves to become agents of change for a more equitable future. As Programmes Director, Kirsten leads the Aflatoun team that manages the global network of partners and supports them in implementing Aflatoun programmes. Before joining Aflatoun and spanning a period of 15+ years, Kirsten worked for several other International NGOs with a focus on Protection and Education of children, youth, refugees and migrants. This included roles as Programme Manager for Asia and Africa, Country Representative for offices in Vietnam, Romania, Greece and Head of Region for Eastern and for Southern Europe. 

Abdullah Allam
Director, Education and Innovations

Abdullah Alam is the Director of Education and Innovations at Aflatoun International, a Social Franchise delivering Social and Financial Education through a network of 300+ partner organisations in 100+ countries. Aflatoun’s mission is to inspire youth to socially and economically empower themselves to become agents of change for a more equitable future. He has demonstrated experience in developing robust and evidence-based education policies, undertaking outcomes-focused planning, and implementing efficient and effective strategies. Over the last fifteen years, he has provided policy-level and technical guidance to policymakers, community leaders, practitioners, and donors across the globe to diagnose complex education challenges and deliver effective and efficient solutions to those problems.
