The Aflatoun International Meeting is a bi-annual conference that brings together stakeholders, partners and the entire network of Aflatoun International to share, network and learn from each other. The 5th International Meeting was held on November 2-4 at the World Trade Centre in The Hague, the Netherlands bringing together over 180 delegates from 77 countries. Participants comprised of local and international stakeholders including civil society, NGOs, and senior government officials. This International platform provided an opportunity for an in-depth dialogue on the Social Development agenda that has increasingly become the driving force and priority for international and national policies.
In September 2015, world leaders committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); setting a broad set of 17 global priorities to be achieved by 2030. It calls for governments, leaders, global institutions and citizens to work together to achieve these ambitious targets that are aimed at unifying the world; solving the world’s most pressing problems and creating a better future for all, especially for children and young people.
Aflatoun International advocates for high-quality Social and Financial Education for all children and young people, including the most vulnerable. The organisation leads a strong network of partner NGOs and collaborates with governments and donors – a collective effort that has changed the lives of millions of young people across the globe in the last decade. A comprehensive themed agenda was developed, focusing on how Aflatoun’s Social and Financial Education contributes to achieving the SDGs and why there is a need for programme scale-up. Various SDGs were unpacked, from different international perspectives and experiences and conclusions on how social and financial education is contributing to the sustainable development goals.
