A visit to Peru with PMIEF!

In May 2025, Aflatoun travelled to Peru for a field visit. Together with the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) and our local partner Viva Vive Valores, we witnessed firsthand the impact of our social and financial education programmes in Peru, combining project management, financial education, and entrepreneurship skills for adolescents. The visit was an important step in the collaboration with local partners in Peru.

Currently, 16,191 adolescents in Peru between the ages of 12 and 17 are not only learning Project Management and Social and Financial Literacy, but are also developing their creativity, creative thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The one-week visit began with a trip to Piura, where the opening ceremony of a regional literacy programme for women took place. Here, we had the opportunity to meet and present Aflatoun to the Municipality of Tampogrande.

A highlight of the week in Peru was the visitation of five different schools in Lima where the PMI project has been implemented. Over the span of three days, Aflatoun and PMIEF visited the various schools and was able to see the firsthand impact that our projects have on young learners.

In San Juan de Miraflores, Aflatoun met students whose projects exemplify the power of combining social awareness with practical skills. Through their partnership with ECO-RUEDA, students are tackling environmental challenges by recycling old tyres to create beautiful planters, simultaneously cleaning up public spaces and decorating their school grounds. Other students had the innovative idea to create first aid kits for every classroom, ensuring their peers have access to essential medical supplies. Another group addressed nutritional gaps by developing spinach crepes with enhanced nutritional value, providing healthy breakfast options for students who might otherwise lack access to nutritious food.

Another visit, to the Antonia Moreno de Caceres school, showed how engaged students are when it comes to collaborating and interacting with educational material together. Students who had completed a project management programme presented the concepts to younger peers through dynamic activities and active learning approaches. This student-led initiative reached 150 new learners, demonstrating how young people can become powerful educators and advocates.

The visit also provided a great opportunity for knowledge exchange between PMIEF and Aflatoun in a comprehensive meeting. The PMIEF team emphasised the unique complementarity between project management education and Aflatoun’s life skills approach, distinguishing our model from other organisations in the field.

On the final day of the visit, Aflatoun attended a meeting with active partners in Peru, during which valuable experiences were exchanged.

A huge thank you goes to Viva Vive Valores and PMIEF for their support, and to all the schools, teachers, and students who welcomed us into their classrooms and shared their inspiring projects.
