Today, Roeland Monasch, Co-CEO of Aflatoun International, took part in important meetings aimed at deepening collaboration with the cooperative movement—an essential ally in advancing social and financial education. The cooperative values of solidarity, empowerment, and sustainability are a perfect match with Aflatoun’s mission to equip young people with the skills needed to shape a brighter future.
At the invitation of Dr. Bhima Subrahmanyam, President of the International Cooperative Banking Association (ICBA), Roeland Monasch participated in the ICBA General Assembly and Board meeting. During his opening address, he shared compelling insights on how social and financial education can drive greater engagement within cooperative banks, ultimately empowering communities to thrive.
The journey continued with a visit to the ICA Africa Regional Assembly, where Dr. Chiyoge B. Sifa, Regional Director of the International Co-operative Alliance – Africa, invited to introduce Aflatoun’s work to a dynamic audience of cooperative leaders from across Africa.
Following the session, there were one-on-one conversations organised – with leaders from Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, and South Africa, exploring exciting opportunities for collaboration aimed at empowering the next generation of cooperative members with essential life skills.
These conversations signal a major milestone in aligning Aflatoun’s expertise with the cooperative movement’s global vision. Together, we’re paving the way for partnerships that will create lasting, transformative impact for children, youth, and communities around the world!
