Aflatoun International joins the FIN.e Lab at European Forum Alpbach 2026

Aflatoun International will take part in the European Forum Alpbach 2026, held 28–30 August in Alpbach, Austria, as part of the FIN.e Lab, a strategic gathering hosted by the European Alliance for Financial Education (FIN.e), of which Aflatoun is a founding lab-partner alongside the Erste Foundation, the European Investment Bank Institute, ActionAid Hellas, and Three Coins.

The Lab brings together FIN.e’s Advisory Board, member organisations, and key stakeholders from across Europe’s financial education ecosystem, with two goals: to explore the future of financial education on the continent, and to identify the priorities and partnerships that will guide FIN.e’s next phase.

Our CEO, Roeland Monasch, will represent the organisation on the FIN.e Advisory Board Strategic Lab (Part I), joining senior leaders from policy, academia, civil society and the financial sector (including representatives from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, ERSTE Foundation, and the Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance) to provide strategic guidance on FIN.e’s development and help shape the Alpbach Statement on Financial Education in Europe.

Kirsten Theuns, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Development, will play a central role in the Practitioner Lab (Part II), co-moderating sessions with ten FIN.e member organisations from across Europe as they exchange experience, define shared priorities, and design the working groups and joint initiatives that will carry the Alliance forward.

Financial literacy in Europe remains uneven, only 18% of EU citizens reach a high level of financial capability, with sharp gaps by region, gender and age. FIN.e was established in 2025 to close that gap by connecting practitioners, policymakers and researchers around a shared ambition: building a European ecosystem where organisations can collaborate, learn from one another, and translate practitioner experience into policy impact.

For Aflatoun, taking part in the FIN.e Lab is a chance to bring our own experience in Social and Financial Education into this emerging European network, and to help shape a shared roadmap for advancing financial capability among Europe’s children and young people.
