Aflatoun has a large network of partners around the world. Our partners include NGOs and civil society organisations working in different contexts and with different target groups. As network partners, organisations are able to receive several types of support from Aflatoun, including curriculum support, training, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) support.
We understand that monitoring and evaluating activities can be challenging, especially when working in different countries, schools, and community settings and a one size fits all approach does not always work. For this reason, part of the support Aflatoun provides to partners includes ready-to-use M&E tools for the different Aflatoun curricula. These tools are designed to be practical and easy to use, and to support partners in collecting meaningful data without creating unnecessary additional work.
We have recently updated our M&E tools for AflaToun and AflaTeen programmes. Following Aflatoun’s focus on contextualisation, the tools are contextualizable and further, partners are able to choose from a variety of tools that suit them best and are most useful for their programmes and reporting needs. The updated tools include a teacher or facilitator insight tool, which allows for rapid insights into behaviour change, as well as a self-administered written questionnaire, an interview questionnaire, a classroom observation tool, and a learner tracker. Together, these tools allow partners to capture both learning outcomes and changes in behaviour in a structured way.
These M&E tools were designed specifically to support partners in their implementation of Aflatoun materials. They can be used for internal learning and reflection, as well as for reporting to donors and other stakeholders. Partners can use one tool or a combination of tools, depending on their capacity and programme design.
We are currently in the process of updating the M&E tools for the AflaTot and AflaYouth materials. So, there will soon be updated M&E tools for all core Afatoun materials. These materials are also based on the Aflatoun methodology, and the updated tools will follow the same approach of being practical, flexible, and aligned with partners’ needs.
In addition to providing tools, Aflatoun also has M&E training sessions and regional M&E sharing sessions. These sessions are to help partners understand the Aflatoun tools and be able to use them effectively, as well as strengthen overall M&E capacity. The regional M&E sharing sessions bring partners togethers to exchange their M&E challenges, progress and wins, strengthening our collective M&E capabilities through peer learning and shared experience.
Through this combination of tools, guidance, and training, Aflatoun aims to make M&E more manageable and more useful for partners. Partnering with Aflatoun means receiving ongoing support to better understand programme results, improve implementation, and demonstrate impact.
