Association Malienne pour le Developpement Rural (AMPDR) is a community-based association created by a group of young people and former agents of Plan Mali in the village of Baga (60km from Bamako) in 1994. The initial goal of the Association was to implement projects to empower Baga communities with a special focus on child protection. Today, the once community-based organisation is now an NGO recognised by the government and is growing its expertise in the field of child protection.
AMPDR has been implementing their non-formal education programmes such as the Accelerated Schooling Strategy and Literacy Projects for more than 10 years. Moreover, they are working with the government in implementing the Support Programme for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of the Child in children’s clubs.
Within the Baga communities, there is a high rate of youth unemployment and in order to provide children with Social and Financial Literacy, AMPDR intends to implement Aflatoun programmes throughout the region. In this light, AMPDR organised an introduction workshop of Aflatoun’s concept at schools and children’s clubs. During this meeting, youths and teachers showed a high interested in Aflatoun’s concept.
