In Egypt, Al-Akon Foundation works tirelessly to enable children and mothers to better manage their lives within their communities. Through innovation, collaboration with beneficiaries and volunteers, and a commitment to continuous renewal, Al-Akon ensures that its programmes evolve to meet the changing needs of the people it serves.
Al-Akon’s mission is simple yet profound: by fostering awareness, providing support, and implementing impactful initiatives, the organisation seeks to create lasting change.
Al-Akon focuses on addressing pressing social challenges, including:
- Behavioural problems among children, particularly violence
- Poverty reduction through sustainable community initiatives
- Environmental awareness and sustainable practices
Al-Akon has launched several impactful programmes, including:
Ali’s Mothers Programme Initiative: Raising awareness among mothers on child-rearing techniques and promoting peer education.
Psychological Support Initiative: Providing individualised sessions for children and mothers to support their emotional and mental wellbeing.
Ayaz Initiative Helps Yalla: Collecting old clothing and tools to redistribute them at a charitable exhibition for beneficiaries.

Our Partnership
As part of its commitment to long-term societal improvement, Al-Akon decided to enter into a partnership with Aflatoun International and to start implementing Social and Financial Education (SFE) programmes.
In particular, they implement the AflaToun curriculum, targeting children aged 7-12. Through this initiative, children learn about:
- Spending, saving, and budgeting
- Citizenship and social responsibility
- Climate education and sustainability
This initiative is especially vital in Egypt, where in certain areas, more than 85% of the population works in sorting and recycling. Many children start working from a young age, which exposes them to significant challenges, including work-related stress and poor living conditions. By providing financial and social literacy, Al-Akon helps these children and their families build better futures.
Understanding Rights and Responsibilities
During a class session, one of Al-Akon’s volunteers introduced the topic of rights and responsibilities from the Aflatoun program. The children’s engagement was extraordinary—they grasped the concepts quickly, participated actively, and impressed the volunteer with their enthusiasm for learning.
Omar, a student at Al-Akon, first came to the organisation’s attention when he was seen assisting his mother in sorting old clothes for her employer in the street. Al-Akon invited him to join other children in their activities. Initially shy and reserved, Omar struggled to participate in events. However, over time, he gained confidence, learned to play and engage with others, and showed great focus when learning about human rights. His transformation is a testament to the power of education and support.
