Partner Of The Week: Dhagagia Social Welfare Society, India

Dhagagia Social Welfare Society (DSWS) has been an active organisation working for the rights of women and children in West Bengal, India for over three decades. Founded in 1994 by seven dedicated professional social workers in response to widespread violations of women’s and children’s rights in the region, DSWS has established itself as a powerful advocate for social justice and equity. Operating primarily in the North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas Districts, the organisation focuses on women’s economic empowerment and the protection of children’s rights through comprehensive interventions designed to combat child trafficking for domestic work. Their multifaceted approach includes promoting education, strengthening community-based protection systems, implementing anti-trafficking measures, apprehending traffickers, and providing repatriation and rehabilitation services for child domestic workers through education and skills development programmes.

Our Partnership

In 2024, recognising the critical importance of financial literacy and social education in their mission to promote equality and sustainable development, Dhagagia Social Welfare Society joined the Aflatoun International network by implementing the Aflatoun Training Programme. DSWS utilises the Aflatoun curriculum to complement their existing work in child protection and women’s empowerment, creating a holistic approach that addresses both immediate safety needs and long-term economic sustainability. The impact of this partnership is already evident, with participants beginning to develop savings habits from their incomes, demonstrating the practical application of financial education principles in real-world situations.
