Partner of the week: Dorcas Aid and ASA Association, Romania

In a powerful collaboration, Dorcas Aid Romania and ASA Association are teaming up to make a difference in communities across Romania. The partnership is set to create impactful change. Their joint mission is clear: to foster community development, combat poverty, and eliminate exclusion in Romania. Regardless of race, religion, gender, or political beliefs, their programmes and projects aim to uplift those in need.

The key areas where their efforts converge:

  1. Poverty Alleviation: Through a multifaceted approach, they’re tackling poverty head-on. From economic empowerment initiatives to vocational training and job placement assistance, their goal is to enable individuals to break the cycle of poverty. Partnering with local communities, they focus on supporting vulnerable elders, impoverished families, and children.
  2. Education and Skills Development: Recognizing the transformative power of education, Dorcas Aid Romania is dedicated to improving access to quality schooling, particularly for Roma children. By investing in education, they’re empowering the next generation to reach their full potential.
  3. Social Entrepreneurship for Vulnerable Women: Women, especially Roma women and victims of human trafficking, often face significant challenges. Through social entrepreneurship initiatives, Dorcas Aid Romania and ASA Association provide these women with the tools and support needed to build sustainable livelihoods and reclaim their independence.
  4. Refugee Support for Ukrainian People: In response to the ongoing crisis, the partnership extends a helping hand to Ukrainian refugees seeking safety and stability in Romania. From providing necessities to facilitating integration into the community, they’re offering vital support during these challenging times.

Our Partnership

In 2016, we forged a partnership with a shared belief: that social and financial education (SFE) holds the key to unlocking brighter futures for vulnerable children and adolescents. For those struggling to keep up with public school curriculums due to familial challenges like illiteracy or financial hardship, SFE can really have a long-lasting impact.

In marginalised communities, where parents may grapple with financial instability or lack of education, SFE equips young minds with the tools to navigate financial decisions and paves the way for a more just and sustainable society. In fact, SFE can break the cycle of poverty, build financial independence, and empower individuals.

That’s why they embraced all four core curricula, knowing that each lesson learned is a step toward a better tomorrow.

Saving together as a class

For many of the children we serve, the concept of “saving” was entirely new until introduced through our programme. Witnessing their determination to set money aside for the first time was truly inspiring. Through the after-school programme, these young participants entrusted the facilitators with their savings, knowing that they promised to double their efforts at the end of the year. Despite facing economic hardships, their commitment was unwavering, and many achieved remarkable savings goals. This experience fills all participants with pride and reaffirms Dorcas Aid and ASA’s belief in the transformative power of education and empowerment.
