Federation des Syndicats de l’Education Nationale (FESEN), or the Togolese Federation of Syndicates of National Education, has been working for 25 years to promote social justice for teachers and students through the collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Education. They are the only teachers’ syndicate in Togo that democratically enrols unions from all levels of education; using training, awareness-raising, negotiation, consultations, strikes, petitions, and demonstrations to create action.
Not only do they work to improve working conditions for teachers, they also promote women and girls’ access to education and training on income-generation. Some of their initiatives include: organising ICT training for teachers, supporting the establishment of income streams for its members, developing saving initiatives at the school level, and training teachers and educational inspectors on social and financial education.
