Partner of the Week: Fundación Ficohsa, Honduras

Since its establishment in 1998, Fundación Ficohsa has been a driving force for educational development in Honduras. With a commitment to fostering quality education, the foundation has positively impacted thousands of children and their communities through innovative programmes and initiatives.

Fundación Ficohsa’s mission is to promote and develop educational programmes across all levels – preschool, middle, and higher education—without discrimination of race, social status, political belief, or religion. The organisation’s ultimate goal is to enhance the quality and efficiency of Honduran education, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

The foundation has concentrated its efforts on generating long-term value within communities by implementing educational programmes that foster inclusive and sustainable growth. Over the past 26 years, these initiatives have reached more than 165,000 children in over 140 educational centers, making a tangible difference in the lives of many Honduran families.

Our Partnership

In today’s interconnected world, financial literacy is more critical than ever. Fundación Ficohsa recognised the importance of Social and Financial Education (SFE) as a cornerstone for comprehensive child development and decided to partner with Aflatoun International in 2014. By teaching children about the value of money, the significance of saving, and essential financial skills, the foundation helps lay the groundwork for a future generation that is financially responsible and empowered.

“When we invest in financial education from an early age, we build strong foundations for a more economically resilient society,” says the Fundación Ficohsa team.

A key aspect of Fundación Ficohsa’s success lies in the dedication of its 143 implementing teachers. These educators serve as agents of change, guiding students through core program topics such as:

  • Saving and Entrepreneurship: Encouraging children to develop smart money habits and explore entrepreneurial thinking.

  • Environmental Awareness: Promoting sustainable practices to protect the planet.

  • Rights and Responsibilities: Educating students about their rights and the importance of being responsible community members.

  • Fundamental Values: Instilling core principles like honesty, empathy, and social responsibility.

The commitment of these teachers has left a lasting imprint on thousands of young learners, equipping them with skills and values that extend far beyond the classroom.

Success with the AflaTot Programme

Fundación Ficohsa’s collaboration with Aflatoun International has yielded remarkable results, particularly through the Aflatot Program. This initiative, which focuses on social and financial education for young children, has benefited over 20,000 children across Honduras.

In 2024, Fundación Ficohsa proudly hosted the regional training for Aflatoun International trainers, welcoming participants from various Latin American and Caribbean countries. This event highlighted the organisation’s dedication to educational excellence and cross-border collaboration in the pursuit of lifelong learning.
