Plan International Peru promotes the rights of children and the equality of girls in Peru and is part of the global membership organisation Plan International that is active in over 72 countries of the world. Currently, Plan International Peru is working in 4 regions of Peru: Lima, Piura, Cusco and Loreto. The country’s strategy is aligned with the global strategy of Plan International in which Peru’s strategy has established 5 strategic objectives for the fiscal years 2017-2022: 1) Education, entrepreneurship and employability; 2) Early childhood development; 3) Sexual and reproductive rights; 4) Protection of children; and 5) Risk management and adaptation to climate change.
One of the projects Aflatoun International and Plan International Peru together are working on is the ‘Forming Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow’ project. Within the framework of the ‘Forming Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow’ project (Formando Emprendedores del Mañana), texts for students, and methodological guides for teachers have been developed which include the 5 thematic axes of Alfatoun. The materials were contextualized to the national reality and aligned with the current National Curriculum and the guidelines of the Ministry of Education for Regular Basic Education.
Currently, 94.695 students from 80 schools, 868 Entrepreneur Clubs and 868 trained teachers are benefitting from this project. It is expected that by the end of the project, 120.000 students from 120 schools, 360 managers, 960 teacher guides and 5.400 classroom teachers can benefit from the project and apply the sessions of Entrepreneurial, Financial and Pension Planning.
The results of the ‘Forming for Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow’ project have been very positive. Children express that the programme has allowed them to “start their projects and realise their dreams and goals” and that they have found a meaning to the savings culture: “saving allows us to have our own money to dispose that we like more in the future“.
Parents’ Testimony:
“We see the great interest they have in learning about setting up a business and the responsibility that this entails. Children seek to replicate what they have learned in the classroom in their homes through their small ventures “
