Partner Of the Week: Sustainable Development Foundation, Yemen

Introducing our Partner of the Week from Yemen: the Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF). SDF is a non-governmental organisation working on humanitarian support and social development, founded in 2015 in Amanat Al-Asimah, Yemen.

SDF works towards a more equitable and safer society by addressing a multitude of social challenges. From strengthening health systems in various communities to combating food insecurity and providing vulnerable groups with a safe environment. SDF’s mission is to support communities with sustainable and high-quality humanitarian assistance through a human rights-based approach.

Our Partnership

As a humanitarian non-governmental organisation, they also work towards economic empowerment for young people and women. Therefore, they decided to partner with Aflatoun and collaborate on providing high-quality, contextualised Social and Financial Education in Yemen. SDF uses the AflaTot and AflaYouth curricula to teach children and young people how to develop life skills such as problem-solving, effective communication, and informed decision-making.

Since joining Aflatoun in May 2020, SDF has trained 78 teachers, brought the Aflatoun curricula to 10,938 girls, and supported the formation of 29 Aflatoun clubs. Through this, they have taught children how to manage their money, create financial plans, and access entrepreneurial opportunities. Furthermore, through implementing social education, SDF has instilled special awareness, the importance of teamwork, and respect for one’s peers in their students.

The Social and Financial Education initiatives in Yemen have shown a significant and tangible positive impact on children, as they have helped them develop their life skills and gain new knowledge and self-confidence.
