The Association Pour l’Education Financière du Public (APEFP) has been working on the economic empowerment of young people and women in Burkina Faso since December 2020. Their mission is to contribute to the financial, social and economic education of people in Burkina Faso through training, awareness campaigns and capacity building for young people, women and workers. By providing financial and entrepreneurial education, they aim to equip young people with the tools to manage their personal and collective financial resources responsibly. Furthermore, they seek to address unemployment by enhancing the employability of young people through complementary and practical training.

Our Partnership
APEFP decided to join the Aflatoun network in 2023 to benefit from capacity building, gain access to innovative pedagogical tools, and collaborate with organisations committed to social and financial education on a global scale.
In Burkina Faso, a large proportion of the population, especially young people, are vulnerable to debt, unemployment and financial exclusion. Therefore, they are using social and financial education to help young people develop life skills, strengthen economic resilience, and guide them towards autonomy and becoming responsible economic citizens.

Success Stories
One of their key achievements working with Aflatoun so far is the “My Money, My Future” Campaign. In October 2023, they launched this first national campaign to coincide with Local Consumption Month and Global Financial Education Month, reaching over 2,000 young people in secondary schools, universities and vocational training centres.
Another accomplishment has been the training of young trainers in 2024. Using Aflatoun programmes, APEFP trained a cohort of young trainers who went on to hold workshops in several secondary schools and training centres. One of the women trained launched her own business making eco-friendly school bags after learning how to budget, save and manage her income.
